	As compared to other laquer miniature centers, Fedoskino artists have developed apart from icon painting, originally following oriental decorative tradition: they use mother-of-pearls, gold inlay, and oil - instead of tempera - in their works. The theme development went through many stages - from adapting Italian, Dutch, and - later - Russian original paintings to miniature works, to salon scenes, to multi-figure compositions; often, Fedoskino works were intended to become prestigious gifts. Despite their delicacy and seeming fragility, Fedoskino works of papier-mache are durable and functional.
